Winston: Boron IIx: 8/9wt 14' Spey Rod, 4-P, 8140-4
Added May 7, 2008 from flyfishingoutfitters.com
My rating
Description
To cover big water you need a rod that has the reach. This 14 foot 8 weight has the length to throw huge mends but the tip to protect those delicate mouths. You will able to cover some water with this baby. There will no lost fish on the Dean this summer.

Waterworks ULA F2 XLT Large Arbor Fly Reel (4wt, 5wt, 6wt)
Added Apr 10, 2008
My rating
Description
So you've finally bought a new lightweight trout rod but your old Lamson LP reel feels like a brick on the end of the rod! May we suggest the ULA Force. Built like that same brick, but light as feather, the F2X can handle any big river fish! See you on the Lower Sacramento. WATERWORKS REEL NOTES: The ULA Force reel combines the weight savings of the ULA Purist with the smooth conical drag that is used in the ULA Force Saltwater. The ULA Force has the stopping power needed for strong running fish, durability for travel and saltwater exposure, yet is sufficiently lightweight to cast all day without fatigue. The ULA Force reels also offer the versatility of the "Fx" spools. This means that you can buy a 5,6 weight reel for trout, and with the purchase of an additional (Fx) spool, you will be able to run an 8 wt saltwater line with plenty of backing for bonefish without having to buy a second reel.
My review
Great reel for lightweight rods- I've got mine paired with a Winston Boron IIX 5 wt. and it's got perfect balance. Great design and simple, sealed drag system. Walls of spool are thin, so need to be more careful with this vs. other reels, but I've heard Waterworks is great on customer service front.
