TomTom is a Dutch digital mapping and routing company that was founded in 1991 by Harold Goddijn, Peter-Frans Pauwels and Pieter Geelen. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the company is the leading manufacturer of navigation systems in Europe and has over 3,300 employees today. TomTom has offices within Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The company's products are sold in over 30 countries and are offered in over 20 languages.
TomTom products include Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs), line fitted in-dash navigation solutions and software for use on PDAs and smartphones. TomTom acquired Tele Atlas, a digital map-making company, in 2008. This has allowed TomTom to supply digital maps that enable routing guidance. TomTom navigation units provide both direct-overhead map view and a bird's eye view of the road. Some TomTom systems also integrate with mobile phones using Bluetooth to take calls and read SMS messages aloud. TomTom services include TomTom Plus, TomTom LIVE, Map Share, HD Traffic, and IQ Routes. The company sponsored both Indy and NASCAR racers in 2009.
